Fresh Flowers

Fresh flowers are stunningly beautiful, smell great, and are a great decoration for any room at any time of year. Anyone who grows them, buys them, or receives them as a gift will want to keep them alive and looking great as long as possible. There are several simple tips to ensure that your flowers look their best while on display and that they last as long as possible, weather you get them from a florist shop, or grow them yourself.

For open fresh flowers, such as roses and daffodils or gerbera daisies, turn the flowers to they are viewed at different angles. You don’t want all the flowers in the arrangement facing the same direction. Also, allow some space in between the flowers to prevent a crowded look. You can also use filler flowers, such as ferns, Queen Anne’s lace, baby’s breath, heather and aster, in sparse looking arrangements to add some bulk and beauty.

Once you have arranged your fresh flowers so they look as beautiful as possible, use these tips to keep them alive as long as possible. Always use clean vases or containers to prevent any bacteria from ruining the flower quality. Remove any leaves that will be under the water, because they will rot. Always add flower food to water in the vase and change the water every couple of days.

Also, when the stems of the fresh flowers begin to brown, cut about two inches off the bottom at an angle and place them in cold water immediately. Never place them fully in the sun or over a hot surface. This will cause excess water loss and they will dry up quicker.
